Coexist

Quantum technology is evolving rapidly, with large investments from both governments and the private sector. While innovations such as quantum computing hold potential, their societal implications call for careful reflection. How do we, as a society, wish to integrate quantum technologies in our world?

Coexist installation overview

The installation features 10 stainless steel frames, each holding a rotating plexiglass disk powered by a transparent belt. A polarizing filter on the disk allows separation of white light from the central light tower into vibrant, distinct colors. In quantum physics, a system can be in superposition — particles can exist in multiple states at once. When measured, the system collapses and only a single observable outcome remains. Coexist brings these concepts to life and draws a parallel with our society.

Coexist exhibition

Coexist has been exhibited at the Mauritshuis, UNESCO's Opening Ceremony of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology in Paris, NLExpo2025 (Netherlands participation at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai), and Ars Electronica in Linz.
